About the Role
As an energy markets specialist, you are an accountable member of an energy management team responsible for helping customers interface with the IESO administered markets.
You are responsible for utilizing WBE software platforms and tools for offer management and oversight of commercial activities for customers including electricity sales and purchases from strategy through settlement.
The successful candidate should enjoy working independently in a high-paced, evolving environment. With the changing IESO administered capacity and energy markets, candidates must be open to learning new things.
Responsibilities
Electricity Sales and Purchases

Submission, management, cancellation and amendment of market bids and offers in day-ahead and real-time IESO markets (both energy and ancillary markets).
- Support customers in their interaction and interface with the IESO including loads, generators and energy storage market participants.
- Support settlement estimates and verification of revenues and costs.
- Participate in industry events and networking opportunities as needed.

Reporting and Administration

Manage appropriate records of activities.
- Assist in customer management of required reporting.
- Participate in customer and team meetings reporting results, solutions and updates.
- Ongoing education and understanding of the evolving IESO administered electricity market.

Data Analysis and Collection

Perform data analysis in support of market operations and settlements.
- Settlement analysis of both IESO contract and market mechanisms.

Assistance with other office and company duties

Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a business environment, preferably electricity markets. Knowledge of power sector a benefit, including familiarity with electricity generation and/or energy storage. Experience working in a team essential.
- Positive, self-motivated and capable of working independently
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
- Detail-oriented, enjoy data analysis
- Technical proficiency with spreadsheets and databases
- Strong research and analytic capabilities
- Proven problem-solving abilities
- Interested in becoming an expert in energy sector

Additional Details
- Location: Remote/Downtown Toronto – this is a remote work role with the option of utilizing Workbench Energy’s downtown Toronto office as desired.
- Start Date: Immediate
- Compensation: Based on experience
- Hours: Must be willing to work flexible hours, including late evenings, early mornings and weekends. This role is for full time 40 hours per week but does not follow typical office hours. Successful candidate is part of a team covering a 24-hour desk and will be expected to work shifts. Exact schedule will be coordinated with the successful candidate.
